Improving Your Eye Health

You take the time to worry about your heart and your lungs, so why wouldn't you think about your eye health? If you are like most people, it might be because you don't know that much about how to take care of your eyes. Fortunately, I have been working with other people to teach them about eye health for the past twenty years. My father lost his eyesight because of a few bad decisions, and I don't want to see other people go down that path. Read here to learn why you should exercise, eat right, and see your eye doctor regularly.

2 Natural Ways To Treat Your Cataracts At Home

James Castro

If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, you may wonder if there are any natural ways you can help treat the condition at home in addition to your regular treatment. If so, use one or both of the following home treatments to help slow down the progression and ease the symptoms caused by your cataracts.

Eat Your Spinach

While carrots have traditionally been praised for their ability to improve vision and combat cataracts, science has shown that this is not the case. Instead, green, leafy vegetables like spinach are higher in beta-carotene, the vitamin the body uses to make the vitamin A that is essential to eye health.

If you don't like the taste or slimy consistency of cooked spinach, you may be relieved to hear that the vitamin is more accessible the closer to get to its raw form. You can mix the leaves in with your salad.

If you do want to have them heated up, heat up a skillet, and add the spinach. Wilt the leaves for a minute. Then, remove them from the pan, and add them to your recipe or eat them with a small amount of olive oil drizzled over them.

Apply Milk And Honey Drops To Soothe Irritated Eyes

If you find that your cataracts leave your eyes constantly irritated and feel dry, try making and applying milk and honey drops to your eyelids. Together, the ingredients soothe the irritation and promote tear production.

When selecting your ingredients, use organic milk and organic, raw honey. These will give you the purest form of the milk and honey because they do not have added chemicals and other ingredients that could irritate your eyes, having the opposite effect.

To make your drops, add a teaspoon of honey to a small jar. Then, pour a cup of milk over the honey. Close the lid on the jar, and place it in the refrigerator overnight to give the honey time to infuse into the milk.

A couple times a day, gently rub a couple of drops on your eyelids. Do not put the drops directly on your eyes. The mixture will absorb into the skin without having to have direct contact with your corneas.

While the above remedies can help you treat your cataracts, they will not cure your eye condition. If your symptoms start to become worse, or you want a more permanent solution, you should make an appointment with your optometrist so they can discuss with you various medical and surgical options for treating your cataracts.
